Overwatch: New game details, map preview
Overwatch, the first major release from Blizzard Entertainment, has received a major update that has some of the most detailed maps yet.
In addition to new gameplay modes and character skins, Blizzard has also added the ability to build custom maps, a feature that the publisher says will make the game more accessible and fun to play.
Blizzard released the new maps at a special event at the company’s headquarters in Irvine, California.
“Overwatch has always been about giving you the most immersive, best-looking, and most powerful gameplay experience possible,” said David Gaider, Blizzard’s CEO.
“This new update brings a whole new level of accessibility to Overwatch that we can’t wait to share with the community.”
The company also added a new Hero to the game, Mercy, who can cast a beam of light on enemies, which can also be used to help heal allies.
Overwatch has received its biggest update since the launch of the game in July 2015.
The game will be available on November 7, 2018 for $59.99.
“We’re excited to finally get this update out to the world,” Gaider said.
“With the new hero, Mercy we can give our players more tools and options to make Overwatch even better than it already is.”
Blizzard is still working on balancing the game’s maps, and the company is still figuring out how to make them look great on consoles, although the company has announced that it is working with Valve on a PC version.
“As we look at the future of our game, we’re confident that we’ll have a solid team working on this next update,” Gaide added.
“Our goal is to make the most of what the platform has to offer, which means making sure the maps are accessible to all players, and that we have a robust online multiplayer system.”
